Gemini reads Google Maps

Google says Gemini uses public information from Google Maps to find places such as businesses, stores and restaurants, and can get addresses, descriptions, websites, ratings and opening hours for a place. Selecting a place's name in Gemini's answer opens its details page in Google Maps.[1]

Your Business Profile is how your business appears in Google Maps and Search, and Google says complete, accurate and verified information makes a business more likely to show up for relevant searches in its area.[3]

Google-Extended controls Gemini, not Search

Google-Extended is a setting (a robots.txt product token) that controls whether content Google crawls from your site may be used to train Gemini models and for grounding, meaning content from the Google Search index given to Gemini at the time someone asks.[2]

Google says Google-Extended does not affect a site's inclusion in Google Search and is not used as a ranking signal there.[2]

Blocking Google-Extended won't remove you from Google Search, but it can stop your website's content being used to ground Gemini's answers. If you want Gemini to be able to draw on your pages, don't block it.
